Meet KiloDrive: A Jamaican Ride-Hailing Alternative Built Around Choice

A new transportation marketplace for Jamaican riders and drivers

Jamaicans are getting another option for getting from point A to point B. KiloDrive is a new transportation marketplace designed for riders who want more say over what they pay and drivers who want more control over the work they accept.

The model will feel familiar to people who know inDrive: KiloDrive calculates a route-aware suggested fare, the rider can adjust the proposal, and eligible drivers can accept it or make a counteroffer. The rider then chooses the preferred qualified driver. But KiloDrive adds its own Jamaican-focused approach, including local JMD fare presentation, cash and wallet payments, driver memberships, parcel delivery, scheduled rides, safety tools and other mobility services.

Built for the way Jamaicans actually move

Whether the trip is across Kingston, between towns, to the airport, or part of a longer journey across the island, the aim is to make the price discussion more transparent before the ride begins. KiloDrive first provides a suggested fare based on the route. The rider can then adjust that amount while the request is open, and drivers decide whether to accept or counter.

That means the platform does not simply decide everything for both sides. Drivers can decide which opportunities make sense for them, while riders can compare responses before making a choice. Learn more about the rider experience and the driver experience.

What riders get

For riders, KiloDrive is free to use – there is no rider membership plan. A customer can request a ride, review driver responses, choose a preferred offer and pay using cash or an available KiloDrive Wallet balance.

The wider platform also supports scheduled and recurring rides, multi-stop journeys, parcel delivery, live trip information, ratings, in-app communication, accessibility options and vehicle rentals. KiloDrive is designed so one account can support several everyday transportation needs instead of being limited to a single type of trip.

A different deal for Jamaican drivers: no KiloDrive trip commission

One of KiloDrive’s biggest differences is its driver business model. Instead of taking a percentage of each passenger trip, the current KiloDrive marketplace is funded through driver memberships. KiloDrive applies zero platform commission to passenger-trip earnings, so the driver retains 100% of the agreed trip fare before the driver’s own taxes, fuel, maintenance, insurance, refunds, chargebacks, tolls or other separately disclosed costs.

Drivers can start on the Free plan and move to Silver or Gold as their activity grows. Full plan information is available on the KiloDrive Membership page.

KiloDrive driver membership prices in Jamaica

Jamaican-dollar reference prices below use the 15 August 2026 reference rate of US$1 = J$158.174 and are rounded to the nearest Jamaican dollar. Actual local checkout pricing can vary with the platform’s configured exchange-rate snapshot or app-store storefront pricing.

Plan Weekly 30 days 90 days Accepted trips/week
Free J$0 J$0 J$0 8
Silver about J$2,373 about J$8,541 about J$24,675 40
Gold about J$7,909 about J$28,471 about J$82,250 120

Silver is based on US$15 weekly, US$54 for 30 days and US$156 for 90 days. Gold is based on US$50 weekly, US$180 for 30 days and US$520 for 90 days. The Free, Silver and Gold weekly trip capacities are 8, 40 and 120 respectively. Membership gives access and capacity under the selected plan; it does not guarantee ride requests or earnings.

Why the membership model could matter to local drivers

For a Jamaican driver, the difference is easy to understand: the cost of accessing the marketplace is separated from the fare earned on each passenger trip. Once a driver’s applicable membership is active, KiloDrive does not take a percentage simply because a particular trip pays more.

That can make it easier for drivers to think about their platform cost alongside the expenses they already manage – fuel, servicing, tyres, insurance and other operating costs. KiloDrive also provides a public driver earnings calculator and fuel-cost calculator as informational tools.

Fare suggestions designed for Jamaica

KiloDrive’s Jamaican fare model begins with a transparent suggested private-hire fare based on the journey rather than leaving the first number completely unexplained. The current baseline uses distance bands and can include a toll allowance when the route includes a toll road. The rider may then adjust the proposal before a driver is selected.

For drivers and riders planning journeys that use Jamaica’s toll roads, KiloDrive also provides a public Jamaica highway toll calculator. Displayed toll-plaza signage and the applicable published toll schedule remain authoritative at the time of travel.

Safety, verification and trip sharing

KiloDrive also places emphasis on trust and verification. Driver compliance can include identity verification, a valid driver’s licence, proof of address, police or background documentation, vehicle registration and insurance checks before a driver becomes eligible to work.

During trips, KiloDrive includes safety features such as location-based trip information, expiring live-trip sharing and RideCheck-style monitoring for unexpected route deviations or prolonged stops. Riders can read more about these features on the KiloDrive Safety page. Information about the platform’s security and privacy controls is also available through Data Security and Data Protection.

More than ride-hailing

KiloDrive is being built as a broader Jamaican mobility marketplace. Alongside passenger rides, the platform includes parcel delivery, scheduled and recurring journeys, vehicle rentals, wallet services, reporting tools and a collection of public vehicle and transportation calculators.

This gives the platform room to serve not only somebody looking for a ride today, but also drivers building a transportation business, people sending packages, renters looking for vehicles and vehicle owners or rental companies participating in the marketplace.

The idea is simple: both sides should have a say

KiloDrive’s Jamaican proposition can be summed up simply: the platform suggests a fare, the rider can adjust it, the driver can accept or counter, and the rider chooses the preferred qualified driver.

For riders, that means another choice in Jamaica’s transportation market. For drivers, it means another way to find customers without surrendering a percentage of every passenger-trip fare to KiloDrive.
